北京时间1月7日9时5分，西藏日喀则市定日县发生6.8级地震，造成重大人员伤亡，大量房屋倒塌。

灾情发生后，西部战区快速响应，人民子弟兵火速组织救援力量，进行前出救援。西藏军区某陆航旅派出2架直升机空中勘察震区情况，为后续救援做好准备。

西藏军区某边防团接上级命令，按照预案区分3个方向，周密组织挺进灾区抗震。岗嘎边防连出动兵力115人、车辆6台，克服道路损坏困难，第一时间抵达灾区，搜救受困群众、修复被毁道路。截至1月7日13时，抢救受伤群众13人，按照计划设置受灾群众安置点，收纳群众近百人。

日喀则军分区第一时间启动应急预案，出动部队官兵（民兵）900多人，赶赴定日县长所乡、措果乡、曲当村等受灾严重的地区，全力抢救伤员，搜救被困群众。截至13时15分，日喀则军分区第二批救援力量689人，分定日、拉孜、萨迦三个方向出动，就近赶赴各乡镇展开救援。

武警西藏总队迅即启动应急预案，分批派出官兵前往受灾严重的长所乡、曲洛乡、措果乡等地迅速展开人员搜救、伤员转移等。截至7日12时30分，武警西藏总队已出动389名官兵，携带各类救援器材210件/套，紧急赶赴受灾较重的定日县长所、措果、曲洛乡等地参与救援行动，全力救助受灾群众。
